Academic environment

The University of Namur welcomes near 7,000 students every year to its 60 bachelor, master, and doctoral study programs. Of the University’s 1,200 employees, almost 1,000 actively contribute to research, through 64 research laboratories and centers and 11 research institutes. The Faculty Economics Management Communication Politics (EMCP) accounts for 1,300 students and 170 staff members, among whom 85 academic and 70 scientific members. The Faculty offers daytime and evening programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral level in management and economics. It also organises programs in political sciences and communication studies. Its members undertake research in various fields of expertise.

The candidate will primarily integrate within the UNamur School of Management (50%) and the School of Evening Studies in Economics and Management (50%). The approximately 70 academic and scientific staff members of these two departments contribute to daytime and evening programs for bachelor, master, and doctoral students in management and economics. Their research spans various topics in management and economics, conducted within three research institutes: Development Finance & Public Policies (DeFiPP), Namur Digital Institute (NADI), and Namur Institute for Complex Systems (naXys). They collaborate with multiple national and international companies and organizations through theses, internships, seminars, and consultancy missions.

The selected candidate will become part of NADi-CeRCLE, a renowned international research center specializing in Marketing and Service Management. NADi-CeRCLE is dedicated to advancing cutting-edge research in these fields, fostering innovation and contributing to academic and industry knowledge. The dynamic team works on pioneering projects that push the boundaries of service management and marketing. The center offers an intellectually stimulating and collaborative environment, supporting researchers at every stage of their careers to thrive and grow.

Job description

The activities associated with the position are equally subdivided into research, teaching activities and administrative activities. The candidate is expected to show expertise in the Service and Marketing management area and to develop both his/her research and teaching activities in this area. Teaching will take place in both bachelor’s and master’s programs, during daytime and evening classes, in the management science and business engineering and economics programs at the University of Namur.

More generally, the applicant will:
• be responsible for teaching courses at the various study levels (i.e. undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate) ;
• supervise master theses as well as PhD dissertations ;
• be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programs in the abovementioned fields within the Namur Digital Institute NADI-CeRCLe (Research Center in Marketing and Service Management).

Through his/her research activities, the applicant will contribute to raise the university’s profile and more particularly:
• publish research findings in reputable journals and present at leading international conferences
• find and obtain external funding for research
• enlarge the network of the University.

Finally, the candidate is expected to contribute to the dynamics of the department, research center/institute and faculty and will in the future be involved in administrative responsibilities at the Department, Faculty or University level.

Profile

The applicant has:
• a PhD degree in Management, Economics, or equivalent, (or will have obtained one before starting the position) ;
• excellent skills to teach to a university student audience ;
• a solid research track record with clear the aptitude to publish in high-impact top-tier journals in the field ;
• the aptitude to incorporate research results into his/her teachings ;
• the aptitude to work in a team and the potential to organize and lead a research group ;
• Proficiency in French (minimum B2 level), or a strong commitment to achieving this level within one year if not currently proficient ;
• a good command of both spoken and written English and the ability to teach in English.

The following features will be considered as assets:
• one or several visits to academic and research institutions other than the one that delivered the PhD degree (post-doc or a visiting research stay of at least 3 months) ;
• show creativity and openness to innovative forms of teaching and interdisciplinary research ;
• the ability to incorporate the business world in teaching and research activities and/or to initiate and develop collaborations with the business world ;
• experience in teaching both regular students and adult learners at the university level.
