We are back. After the 2020 lockdown, we are getting ready to host in presence the 2022 La Londe Service Conference. There are one memorial, one novel, and two traditional aspects in this 2022 edition.
First, Covid-19 has impacted our lives and made us realize that we cherish more intensively some things that we took for granted in the pre-Covid era. As organizers, we deeply care about our La Londe Service Conference. Hence, after four years (since 2020 was canceled, and 2018 was the last one), we are looking forward to welcoming you again. This edition will be special, not only because we had to wait longer for the next edition, but also because of Pierre Eiglier who will not be with us. Pierre passed away in February 2020, but his legacy is always with us. Pierre was a pioneer in seeding and nurturing the emergence of services and, for over three decades, he continued to foster the growth of the discipline most notably through the series of La Londe conferences. He had a very clear idea about the kind of experience that La Londe had to provide: a three-day conference that participants should attend for its entire length, with little distractions, only two parallel sessions, and more time devoted to discussion than to presentations. In the 2022 edition, we will honor Pierre, and remember him by so many things, while sharing memories, while listening to a keynote talk from David Bowen who will honor him with a tribute to Pierre Eiglier, while drinking wine… or just by being there, and continuing doing what he has created for us.
The second novel aspect is that the 2022 edition will be held on the island of Porquerolles. It is the island that we visit every edition of the conference during an afternoon break. Everyone loves it so much that we decided to have the entire conference on the island! Our conference rooms will look over the sea and the pine trees and we are sure that this environment will inspire each one of us…
The first traditional aspect originates from the conference’s original positioning: devoting 45 minutes to each full paper presented allows authors to receive detailed, thoughtful feedback, which is an important moment throughout the entire academic career of a researcher. We protect this unique feature because we know how relevant it is for research. If you don’t have time to prepare a full paper submission, then you can also participate upon submitting an abstract (see the conference website and link below for more information about the submission).
The second traditional aspect is the friendliness and informality of the Conference. Thanks to the service researchers attending it, the environment, the pace, La Londe is the perfect place for sharing ideas, nurturing, and developing research collaborations and rewarding relationships.
The dates of the conference in 2022 – June 7-10 – allow participants to attend SERVSIG 2022 and Frontiers with no rush. Our staff can help you organize the transfer from La Londe to the other conferences for those who wish to do so.
