All five of JSR’s editors – past, present, and future – attended the Frontiers in Service Conference in Bergen, Norway, June 23-26. For all five to be in one place at the same time, is a rare occurrence indeed! From left to right in the photo are Roland Rust (Editor 1998-2005), Parsu Parasuraman (Editor 2005-2009), Katherine Lemon (Editor, 2009-2013), Mary Jo Bitner (Editor, 2013-2017), and Michael Brady (incoming Editor, 2017-2021).
During the conference the five editors met with approximately 35 others for the annual Editorial Review Board meeting of the JSR, led by Mary Jo Bitner. Among the topics discussed were the recently released Impact Factors for 2015: 2.462, two-year impact factor (29 out of 120 business journals); 5.713, five-year impact factor (12 out of 120 business journals). The journal received 354 submissions in 2015, with an acceptance rate of less than 9 percent. The journal continues its strong reputation for cross-disciplinary publications in services, including papers that focus on service topics within marketing, management, operations, information systems, and transformative. The global representation of authors and Editorial Board also continues with 50 percent of the Editorial Review Board and 60 percent of authors coming from outside the US.
During the Frontiers Conference, various JSR awards were given. More here.
Be sure to watch for special sections/issues in 2016 including: Special Section on Healthcare Service Research, November 2016 (Guest Editors: Tracey Danaher and Andrew Gallan); Special Issue on Organizational Frontlines Research, expected February 2017 (Guest Editors: Jagdip Singh, Tom Brown, Michael Brady, and Todd Arnold); and Special Issue on Service Design and Innovation, expected late 2017).
The Editors, Associate Editors, and Editorial Review Board of JSR are excited about the strong performance of the journal and look forward to its continuation. The Editor transition will take place starting in April 2017 when Dr. Brady will begin taking all new manuscripts. He will take on all manuscripts (including those in process) in an anticipated smooth handoff from Dr. Bitner on June 1, 2017.
Thanks to all of you who contribute to the journal as authors, reviewers, associate editors, and readers!
Mary Jo Bitner, Editor, Journal of Service Research
