
Ray Fisk, Texas State University
The American Marketing Association announces Raymond P. Fisk as the recipient of the inaugural AMA Special Interest Group (SIG) Leadership Award. Dr. Fisk is Professor and Chair of the Department of Marketing at Texas State University where his research interests center around services marketing and management. He is founder of the Services Marketing SIG (SERVSIG) and the SERVSIG International Conference among other activities. The Award will be presented at Summer AMA 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Among Professor Fisk’s many contributions to the AMA, he created SERVSIG in 1993 and served as founding chair until 1995. Since that time he has served in dozens of roles supporting SERVSIG awards, communications, and programming. In 1997, Fisk and Liam Glynn launched the SERVSIG International Conference which will hold its eight event in 2016. In addition, Fisk was instrumental in arranging for SERVSIG to become a sponsor of the Frontiers in Service Conference and the AMA SERVSIG Doctoral Consortium has been held at that conference for the last 20 years.
Beyond his role with the Special Interest Groups, Professor Fisk is a past president of the AMA Academic Council, served as a faculty advisor to three different AMA collegiate chapters, and served on the boards of two different AMA professional chapters. After leading the unofficial team who set up an AMA website in June 1994, Professor Fisk served on the official task force that helped select “ama.org” as the AMA’s home one the internet, beating other major organizations like American Medical Association. In the mid-1980s, Professor Fisk also organized three video conferences that linked live AMA conferences via teleconferencing – a precursor to today’s AMA Virtual Conferences. Finally, he was an early advocate for ELMAR and served as the founding editor of what has become the AMA Academic Community space on the web.
Professor Fisk will be presented with the AMA SIG Leadership Award atSummer AMA 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia in early August at a reception for SIG Leaders from throughout the AMA Marketing Academic Community.
