Who Is Doing the Thinking? Teaching Service in the Age of AI
Most conversations about AI in teaching start with tools. This opening session starts one step earlier, with the question of what we actually want students to struggle with. Drawing on current evidence about how students and faculty are really using generative AI, it maps three tensions every course redesign runs into — access and equity, capability and offloading, integrity and the value of the credential — and offers a simple vocabulary of productive friction for the sessions that follow. The session aims to open the floor for discussion of what teaching means in the age of AI and how we rethink our roles as service educators.
