Frontiers in Service 2025
“Staying at the Forefront of Business through Service”
16-20 July 2025
HEC Montréal, Canada

In 2025, the Frontiers in Service Conference will be hosted by HEC Montréal and convene at their brand-new downtown campus—the building Hélène Desmarais. Please mark your calendar and join us in downtown Montréal, one of the best downtowns in North America, to explore the frontiers of service research and experience the amazing, global community of service scholars!

Founded in 1992 by Roland Rust—Distinguished University Professor and David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing at University of Maryland—the Frontiers in Service Conference is considered by many to be the world’s leading annual conference on service research. The global conference draws attendees from over 40 countries. It is sponsored by INFORMS, the American Marketing Association, and the Center for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland. This conference has been hosted by various organizations worldwide. Importantly, this conference is associated with the Journal of Service Research – the flagship journal in service research.

Building on our excellence in teaching and research, HEC Montréal is a French-language institution that is open to the world and solidly rooted in Quebec society, that trains management leaders who make a responsible contribution to the success of organizations and to the sustainable transition of society.

Montréal is a major international hub and a gateway to North America. Over 90 million people live within a two-hour flight, and 600 flights transit through the Montréal-Trudeau airport daily. But that’s not all. Whether by air, train, bus, car or boat, travelling to Montréal is a piece of cake.

The theme of the conference is “Staying at the Forefront of Businesses through Service”.  Since its induction, the field of service has been one of the most impactful in business. Indeed, this field—through the Journal of Service Research—has been among the first to discuss the central notions of relationship marketing, service-dominant logic, customer lifetime value, engagement, customer experience, artificial Intelligence in businesses, and transformative service research, to name a few. Drawing on this rich history, the 2025 Frontiers in Service conference will explore a wide variety of service topics with a central emphasis on how service can improve business by implementing technologies, improving employee and customer relationships, adapting to environmental changes, and driving increases in productivity. Here are lists of subfields examining these issues:

  • service marketing
  • service management/strategy
  • service operation
  • service design
  • service science
  • service IT
  • service research
  • service and public policy
  • transformative service
  • human resource management in service
  • AI/robotics in service
  • Any other disciplines interested in service

As usual, a Doctoral Consortium will also take place before the main conference (July 16-17).
