Overview
The Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing (JBIM) is calling for submissions for a special issue on “Internet of Things-Driven B2B Service Networks.”
The digitalization of products, services, and processes has been identified as an important trend across nearly all industries. One key area of interest in the digitalization context seems to be evolving around the Internet of Things (IoT) concept (broadly defined as communication network of physical objects or “things”). The IoT increases the availability of data and opens up opportunities for process optimization, collaborative value creation, business model innovation, and even the restructuring of existing industries. However, a better understanding of the IoT is required to leverage these possibilities.
This special issue focuses on a management and marketing perspective to IoT, complementing the technology and engineering-oriented discussion that has already emerged in many forums. The main emphasis of this special issue will be on the services that can be created due to the increasing amount of connectivity and information. We hope especially to see studies on the context of inter-firm networks, as the connections between different actors—organizations, people, and machinery—are at the center of both the service and IoT-related discussions.
Papers
This special issue welcomes both empirical and conceptual papers that develop or extend theory and contribute to the academic and managerial discussion. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- B2b service marketing and the role of IoT
- Value co-creation in IoT-driven service networks
- Customer information and intelligence in the IoT context
- Competition, co-opetition, and collaboration in IoT ecosystems
- Competitive strategy/competitive advantage and the IoT
- Managing and orchestrating IoT-driven service networks
- Crossing industry boundaries/restructuring industries with IoT
- IoT-related service business models
- IoT and b2b service entrepreneurship
This special issue aims for significant cross-fertilization across the abovementioned perspectives and disciplines.
