Service design and innovation have gained increased attention and have been identified as service research priorities by Ostrom et al. (2010). Service design is a multidisciplinary research area that brings new service ideas to life through a human-centered and creative design thinking process. Service innovation involves the creation of new or improved service offerings, service processes and service business models. Service design and innovation play crucial roles in generating new forms of value cocreation with customers, differentiating firms’ offerings and fostering societal well-being. These topics are vibrant areas in need of further research and theory advancements.
