The Services Special Interest Group (SERVSIG) of the American Marketing Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 22nd Annual SERVSIG Doctoral Consortium, preceding the Frontiers in Service Conference, to be held at San Jose, California.
The consortium will begin with a welcome reception on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 and will continue with full day sessions on Thursday, July 9th, 2015. The consortium is designed to help doctoral students and new faculty succeed in their careers. By promoting an intimate and collegial atmosphere, the consortium provides a wonderful opportunity for participants to interact with the field’s leading service scholars and also get feedback from them on research.
The doctoral consortium will be organized around 4 sessions:
- Kick Start and Manage Your Career;
- Publishing Relevant and Rigorous Research;
- Creating Impact Through Teaching and Service;
- Break-out Session: Discussing Participants’ Doctoral Research.
Confirmed speakers and panelists include: Steve Baron, Mary Jo Bitner, David Bowen, Lisa Brüggen, Ray Fisk, Sertan Kabadayi, Janet McColl-Kennedy, Paul Maglio, Ed Malthouse, Parsu Parasuraman, Javier Reynoso, Marianna Sigala, and Allard Van Riel amongst others.
Examples of topics that would be covered during the event are:
- Starting and managing your career in academia
- Building connections and collaboration with other researchers and industry
- Identifying interesting and relevant research questions
- Being a productive and effective researcher
- Getting through the review process
- Approaches to impactful teaching
- Managing research, teaching loads and service requirements
- During the break-out session, two to three doctoral students will be assigned to 2 esteemed faculty fellows participating in the consortium. Each doctoral student will provide a brief presentation of their selected research topic and will receive feedback from both faculty fellows and other doctoral students.
The consortium presents unique opportunities for doctoral students to meet some of the world’s eminent and emerging service scholars and benefit from their experiences.
Doctoral consortium participants must register for the conference in order to participate in the event. The consortium event is supported by Arizona State University’s Center for Services Leadership, IBM, Cisco, San Jose State University, Ghent University’s Center for Service Intelligence and Fordham University Schools of Business.
