About Braga
Braga is one of Portugal’s oldest cities, blending a rich cultural heritage with a youthful energy thanks to its vibrant student population.
Located in the North of Portugal, Braga is the third largest city in the country (after Lisbon and Porto) with a population of over 200.000 inhabitants. The city is the capital of the Minho Province and is close to other interesting destinations such as Porto, Guimarães, Viana do Castelo, Gerês and the seaside. Braga’s history may be traced back 2000 years, being an important Roman city during the Roman Empire (named Bracara Augusta) and later a relevant religious centre in Hispania. Known for its Baroque architecture, lush green surroundings, and dynamic local traditions, Braga offers the perfect backdrop for scholarly exchange and networking. In 2021 Braga was elected European Best Destination.
