Special Issue of the Service Industries Journal
Political Environment, Security, and the Service Industries
proposed paper by June, 30 2017
full paper submission by December, 31 2017
Political turmoil, instability, terrorist attacks and civil unrest are indicative of the rise of violence in the world today. The cost of violence has been estimated by the 2015 Global Peace Index at $43 trillion. Economic inequality, social injustice and political polarization represent key causes of political instability and violence, yielding serious implications for political institutions, businesses and the society. Unsurprisingly, there has been a major shift of academic and intergovernmental attention to issues related to the political environment and security, and more specifically, on the impacts of political instability on the business environment of the service industries. The political environment influences the performance and the operating context of service organisations, as political instability, insecurity and change impact the service industries at the sectoral level in a number of ways (i.e. influencing consumer confidence and perceptions of safety and security, changing regulatory contexts etc). In light of the current context of political change and volatility at the global level, this special issue invites papers from multi-disciplinary researchers to advance understanding of the relationship between the political environment, security and the service industries.
Submissions, from different epistemological and methodological transitions, related to the following topics (but not limited to) are particularly welcome:
