While most consumers are active in some form or another on one or multiple social media platforms, companies are still struggling to understand if and to what extent they should invest in a social media presence and if so, how to manage their social media presence in the ever fluctuating digital environment. Should social media be used for communicating with consumers and does it actually outperform traditional communication tools such as advertising or public relations when it comes to objective business outcomes? How should companies cope with the dynamic nature of the social media empowered brand communications environment? Can social media be applied to develop innovations (e.g., new products or services)? What would be key strategies for employing social media for innovation and what would be their benefits and pitfalls? Such key managerial questions will be addressed by Roland Rust (University of Maryland), Frank Piller (RWTH Aachen University), and Jos Lemmink (Maastricht University) during this special event.

Programme

14.45-15.00 Walk-in and registration of participants

15.00-15.20 Welcome and introduction – Bizz in the Universe, Brand Buzz in the Echoverse

Jos Lemmink, Professor of Marketing, School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University

15.20-16.00 Social Media: Reshaping the Way We Innovate

Frank Piller, Professor and Head of Group, Technology and Innovation Management (TIM), RWTH Aachen

16.00-16.40 Brand Buzz in the Echoverse

Roland Rust, Distinguished University Professor, University of Maryland
16.40-17.00 Discussion and wrap up

17.00 Drinks and bites in the Coffee Lounge

About the speakers

Roland T.
