I personally enjoy this time of the year as\u00a0it shows us once again how\u00a0diverse and <strong>international<\/strong> our service community is !\u00a0\u00a0This is also nicely\u00a0reflected by\u00a0the website traffic of SERVSIG.org (see world map).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We at SERVSIG aim to be the best worldwide platform for service\u00a0researchers to\u00a0keep in touch with people, events, and ideas. To reflect this\u00a0goal in our\u00a0organizational structure, we introduced\u00a0<strong>Regional Officers<\/strong>\u00a0for all continents where\u00a0the service\u00a0research community is strongly represented (i.e. America, Europe,\u00a0Australasian). The Regional Officer represents SERVSIG in local events, supports\u00a0the service research community in their regional networks and acts as an\u00a0additional\u00a0local connection point for questions and requests in the area.\u00a0(Of course, the rest of\u00a0the board members are still\u00a0available to help. Regional Officers are meant\u00a0to\u00a0offer additional local support and service if needed)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m happy to announce the first Regional SERVSIG Officers. This idea struck me a few years ago\u00a0when I was a PhD student\u00a0attending my first international conference. On that\u00a0occasion, I met one of my\u00a0mentors whom to my question of: \u201chow can PhD students\u00a0improve their networking\u00a0skills?\u201d simply replied: \u201cBe genuine and offer your\u00a0help\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Adopting this moto, I volunteered to help as Social Media\u00a0Officer for JOSM,\u00a0Electronic Media Officer for SERVSIG and now I am delighted\u00a0to volunteer as\u00a0SERVSIG officer for Europe. Throughout these activities, I met\u00a0wonderful\u00a0colleagues and co-authors, built friendships, and would like to\u00a0believe that I helped\u00a0in creating further awareness about our wonderful service\u00a0research community. It\u00a0was my way of saying \u201cthank you\u201d for the great help and\u00a0support I received from the\u00a0various members of our growing family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Today, I want to extend my offer to help to our global\u00a0Service Research community\u00a0at large and in Europe in particular! Our service\u00a0community is international like\u00a0never before. We witness an incredible amount\u00a0of collaborations between\u00a0universities, research centers, and researchers. This\u00a0diversity of ideas, schools of\u00a0thoughts, modes of work, etc. have contributed\u00a0to the advancement of our field. Our\u00a0job, as SERVSIG officers, is to provide you\u00a0with a platform that facilitates these\u00a0collaborations and builds bridges\u00a0between service researchers. My\u00a0research focuses on frontline service interactions, transformative service research, relationship marketing, and marketing strategy. My\u00a0research has appeared in the <em>Journal of Marketing Research<\/em>, <em>Journal of Service Research<\/em>, <em>Journal of Public Policy &amp; Marketing, <\/em><em>Marketing Letters<\/em>, and <em>Journal of Business Research<\/em>. Martin serves on the Editorial Review Boards for the <em>Journal of Service Research<\/em> and the <em>Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0began my\u00a0work as a service scholar at Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, in my\u00a0native Germany. It was during my\u00a0undergraduate studies at this university that I\u00a0read the seminal papers of Mary Jo Bitner, Ruth Bolton, Parsu, Valarie Zeithaml, Kay Lemon, and many other leading service scholars and I\u00a0was instantly taken \u2013 service research was my\u00a0calling. Therefore, I\u00a0then earned a Ph.D. with a dissertation on complaint management (supervised by Bernd Stauss, who \u2013 at the time \u2013 held the first Chair for Services Management in Germany). Subsequently, following my\u00a0heart, I\u00a0was able to earn a Ph.D. from Arizona State University, learning from some of the most wonderful scholars in the area of service marketing.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0have been serving as a Board Member (Program Officer) for SERVSIG since 2014. In my\u00a0new role as a regional officer for the Americas of SERVSIG, I&#8217;m\u00a0happy to be your initial point of contact. If you see me\u00a0at any conference or meeting, please say \u2018hello\u2019 and we can talk about any questions, ideas, and suggestions you may have related to SERVSIG. I&#8217;m\u00a0originally from Taiwan, studied my\u00a0master at the Lancaster University in the UK and completed my\u00a0Ph.D. at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia. My\u00a0first AMA SERVSIG encounter was back in 2011 AMA summer conference in San Francisco. I&#8217;m passionate about my\u00a0research in co-creation and sharing economy, and have initiated the co-creation in service and customer engagement symposium in 2013. The third CCIS-CE symposium was held in Berlin, Germany this June. My first overseas travel destination was Riga, Latvia and I have\u00a0travelled since then more than 30 countries. As I\u00a0believe in sharing the experiences, I\u00a0regularly attend all the marketing and service conferences to get in touch with my\u00a0academic fellows with diverse background and research interests.
