Focus on Service Marketing

Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD position (3+1 years) at the Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management at Maastricht University.

We are seeking candidates who are interested in joining the Service Marketing group, and who are thus especially interested in knowledge and tools to cope with an increasingly service-based economy. By studying service innovation, value networks, financial services, services in healthcare and by exploring new methods to advance the interdisciplinary nature of service, the service research group of our department aims to advance theory and contribute to societally relevant research.

Ph.D. students within the service research group can make use of all research facilities offered by the school. These include a fully equipped research lab (30 partially enclosed cubicles), a virtual store, eye tracking material, etc. Furthermore, the group has an extensive collaboration with the Service Science Factory/UMIO and the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen, providing industry connections.

Ph.D. research positions include a commitment to work as a teaching assistant for the school. This commitment is capped at 20% in the first three years, and 50% in the last year.


The candidate is expected to have a strong academic background. A Research Master is preferred. A preference is given to students who have excelled and shown excellence in at least one (preferably more) of the following subjects at the Masters level: economics, marketing, business, innovation, psychology, or service design. Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R or Stata) is advantageous and would be beneficial.

Contract type

We offer a temporary 3+1 year contract; monthly salary € 2.222 – € 2.840. The fourth your is conditional upon a good evaluation in terms of research and teaching.
